Alger Cutcliffe, 85 -- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alger Cutcliffe who went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2026 at the age of 85. Born on the family homestead in Cape Traverse, PEI on January 19, 1941, Alger was one of twelve children born to Harold and Janet (nee Nicholson). Life in a big family taught him early what mattered most: faith, resilience, loyalty and hard work. There was always work to be done, mouths to feed, and laughter to share. Those humble beginnings shaped the steady, dependable man that many would come to know and love.
Alger’s love for his siblings never wavered, and he maintained close-knit relationships with Eleanor (Paul), Gordon (Ruth), Byron (Peg), Beatrice (Doug), Lois (Doug), Wendell, Adele (Max), Gerald, Donna (Nelson), Liz and Lynda (Sheldon) throughout their lives. Over the years, he enjoyed shared laughter and storytelling with his Thomson in-laws: Art (Glen), Lillian (George), Millie (Cecil), Joyce (Walter) Bert (Shirley), Phyllis (Art), Charlie (Louise), Ruthie (Gordie) and Raymond (Elayne). Many nieces and nephews would frequently visit Alger at home or at his treasured cottage and cherish memories of how he would go out of his way to make everyone feel noticed. He always ensured that visitors had their favorite meal or treat.
Alger carried the values of his upbringing into every chapter of his life. As a machinist of 34 years, he only ever missed one day of work. He was known as a very talented and highly competitive hockey player in his youth, and his love of skating kept him active into his final years. While quiet by nature, Alger loved a good practical joke and was known for his characteristic grin. He kept up to date with current events and enjoyed ribbing family members who held opposing views. Never one to value material things, Alger was happiest to give whatever he had to anyone in need.
At his core, Alger was a family man. For 63 devoted years, he shared both good times and bad times with his beloved wife Elizabeth (nee Thomson). Their life together was built on enduring commitment and stood as an example to all who knew them. Alger and Elizabeth were blessed with two daughters; Susan (Fraser) and Nancy (Ernest) whom he loved deeply. The loss of Susan was a sorrow that he carried quietly throughout his remaining years. Without hesitation, Alger and Elizabeth stepped in to help raise and care for Susan’s daughters, Ireland (Divine) and Briar (John), providing stability, love, and guidance when they needed it most.
Perhaps Alger’s favorite title in life was “Grampie”. He adored Ireland, Briar, Greyson and London and showered them with love and attention. Grampie could always be counted on to keep the candy cupboard stocked, make dollar store runs, and to solve all the problems when life threw curveballs.
Funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, PEI. There will be no visitation by Alger’s request. We would like to thank the palliative care team and the VON for the compassionate care Alger received in his final days.
Though Alger leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives, his family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life and in the words that he now hears: “Well done, good and faithful servant”- Matthew 25:23.
Edward (Ed) John Manicom, 70, Truro, was welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on Saturday morning, September 9, 2023 at the Cancer Society Lodge That Gives in Halifax, with his wife of 44 years at his side.
Ed is survived by his wife and best friend, Dallas, Truro; sons Michael and David, Truro, NS; daughter Rachel (Dan) Chisholm, Sarnia, ON; grandchildren Joshua and James Manicom, Vancouver BC; Adele, Eleanor and Audrey Chisholm, Sarnia ON; siblings Christine (Ralph Gamble) Naugle, Larry (Brenda) Manicom, Debbi (Bruce) Purcell, Jo Ann (John) Mumford, Lori (Kerry) Robinson and Alex (Heidi) Manicom as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Keith and Louise (Boudreau) Manicom.
Born September 26, 1952 in Comox, BC and born again and saved by the grace of God on October 21, 1977 in Vancouver BC where he met and married his wife. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he was somewhat quiet, kept to himself more than he would have chosen had he not been uncomfortable in social settings, but anyone who got to know him knew he had a heart of gold, a dry sense of humour and a passion for the Word of God. An eloquent writer and an amazing visual artist, he leaves many watercolour paintings to be treasured by his family. He was also a musician and lyricist, singing and accompanying himself on guitar at he continued to write songs during his cancer journey.
Ed was delighted to have hit over 800,000 listens to his music on one of his online channels and shortly before his homecall, was trying to write a thank you note to his subscribers to express his gratitude but was unable to do so because of extreme fatigue.
Here's how he described his musical journey in his own words:
"I have been involved with the playing of music since I was 12 when my father gave me an old acoustic guitar with a badly warped neck and a promise that if I learned to play the guitar, he would buy me a better one! That warped neck precluded learning much.
Not being able to use the guitar and sound like the songs I was trying to play, I soon started rudimentary writing of songs to fit the instrument as it was. Later in my teens and 20s, I continued with the music, with better instruments and better results.
When I got saved at age 25, a Les Paul that had been a fixture in my life was sold for the bus ticket that took me to the place where I surrendered to Christ.
For several years after that I shied away from any personal involvement with making music. There were guitars around and I would strum a bit, but I wasn't sure the Lord wanted me to be as devoted a musician as I had been, not until I directly received a song from Him. One day, strumming on an acoustic, a set of chord progressions seemed to just come together, and after playing them a couple of times through, the words were right there . . ."
That song was called "SO AS BY FIRE" and you can listen to it and MANY others by simply doing a Google search for "Ed Manicom".
Since his lymphoma diagnosis 16 months ago, he continued to share the gospel and minister what was impressed upon his heart from the Bible, but as of the middle of June, when he could no longer attend local assembly gatherings, he carried on at home, choosing the books of the Bible that most interested him over the years, writing them out in longhand and doing word studies as he went along -- something he'd always wanted to do from his earliest years as a Christian. Sharing his love, passion and wisdom with any who crossed his path, he made a lasting impact on the lives of his family with his example of faithfulness in desiring to honour his Lord and Saviour.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2 pm at Young Street Gospel Hall, 51 Young Street, Truro, with refreshments following.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory to either the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice are most welcomed.
"We can only imagine the joy in that moment when he saw his Saviour face to face - the One he tried to honour in his walk down here - as much as we wish he was still with us, how could we ever think of taking that away. He often spoke of the joy of being in the Lord's very presence one day -- oh how happy he is at this moment!"

Helen Ruby Anne Marney-Veres (nee McLellan) of Bible Hill, age 78, born in Chaleurs, Quebec on January 2, 1940, beloved wife of John Veres went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday March 2nd 2018 at 5:45pm at the Colchester East Hants Health Center.
She was the eldest child of the late Erwin & Pearl McLellan. Helen lived most of her childhood on the Gaspé coast. She moved with her family to Truro at 15 years of age and there she spent the rest of her formative years and attending the Colchester Academy where she graduated in 1957. Her new home became Truro, Nova Scotia which she enjoyed immensely, but her heart never left the Gaspé.
Helen embarked on her banking career at the Royal Bank in Truro shortly after high school. She married Lyman Marney in 1962 and moved to Prince Edward Island where they lived for 16 years, returning to Truro as a family when Lyman secured a job with the Federal Government of Canada.
Helen was a very social person and was well known and well loved by those that worked with her at Statistics Canada and by the thousands she served while working at various banks over the years including the Royal Bank in Truro and PEI, The Bank of Commerce in Charlottetown and later at Montreal Trust, which merged with Scotiabank where she finished her career when she retired in 2005. Helen was great with numbers and great with people, which made her a valuable asset to the Bank. It was said that she helped build millions of dollars of wealth for her clients, and as a result contributed disproportionately to the success of her branch and the bottom line of the Bank. She did free tax preparation for friends and family for years after her retirement.
Helen received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour in 1949 as a 9 year old girl. She spent many a year walking with the Lord Jesus as a faithful, loving wife and a remarkable mother and grandmother. She spent many years in fellowship in several local churches with the Lord’s people in Charlottetown, Truro, and in Dartmouth where she made a point of being actively engaged in the fellowship. Helen truly was a virtuous woman as depicted in Proverbs 31 and never has it been more truly said that “Her Children arise up to call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her.”
Helen had the opportunity to fall deeply in love twice in her life. After Lyman went to be with the Lord in 2011, Helen moved into Edinburgh Hall at the Parkland Shannex in Truro, where she would eventually meet John Veres and after a romantic courtship they were wed in Edinburgh Hall in January of 2016. Both of them having had lost their spouses after many years of marriage, this new relationship gave each of them a new purpose in life and it was beautiful to see the depth of love they held for one another.
Helen loved her family, children, grandchildren, friends, neighbours and colleagues and customers. Even in her fading days, she would remember the birthdays of her friends’ children and similar details from many years ago.
Predeceased by her husband, Lyman, of 48 years; she leaves behind; loving husband John Veres; children, Rod, Greg (Suzanne), Geoff (Beth), Denise (Joe); grandchildren, Sarah (Neil), Kerry, Jennifer, Matthew (Michelle), Melissa (Greg), Meggan, Kyra (Biays), Stephanie, Jonah, Svetlana (Spencer), Celeste, Jane, David, Laurel, Sam, Avery, Isaac, Stephanie, Tessa, Mike and Chris; loving sister to Ruth (Merle) Bigney, and David (Mary) McLellan, nieces and nephews and John’s children and their families, John Veres Jr. (Marie), Dianne (Ron) McKeag, Sandra Dyer Veres, Wanda (Aubrey) Watson, Joe Veres (Tamara Fraser) (Son: Nick).
